With #NationalGardeningWeek coming to an end, we thought we would use the fruits of their labour (excuse the gardening pun) and leave you with fascinating facts about your garden that you didn’t know about.

FACT #1

Baking soda can help you grow sweeter tomatoes!

All you have to do is sprinkle a small amount of baking soda into the soil around the plant making sure not to get any on the plant itself. This will help lower the acidity levels giving you tomatoes that are deliciously sweet.

This means if your own garden doesn’t get much sunlight you can still have beautiful flowers that come back year after year. Examples of shade tolerant flowers include:

  • Lily-of-the-Valley
  • Snowdrops
  • Primula
  • Hosta
