My name is Charlotte Robb, I am a student in S5 at Wellington School in Ayr and completed my work experience at the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce. I was curious about all of the different work that the Ayrshire Chamber does for Ayrshire businesses and wanted to find out more.
On my first day I joined Business Liaison Officers, Emma and Tony at an event at Ayr College. This involved lots of school pupils from over Ayrshire coming together to consider their opportunities beyond school. At the event there was different stand holders from the Art, Fashion, Design, Architecture, Sound Production, Theatre, Media and Filming industry. Later on that day I sat down with everyone in the office and talked to them individually about their role in the business and what they did. I also sat in on an International Trade meeting.
Over the next 2 days I spent some time sitting with the Developing the Young Workforce Ayrshire team learning how they work with businesses and schools to create job opportunities and work placements for young people. I also helped them out with their marketing campaign, which was to thank every employer that had been involved with DYW over the past year. I also went along with Claire, DYW Ayrshire Project Executive to the opening of a Nail Bar at Ardrossan Academy which was the result of funding from DYW Ayrshire.
I also learned how the chamber monitors a network of businesses that can become members and benefit one another.
Overall I really enjoyed my 3 days with the chamber and I have learned more about all of the work that goes on helping the business community. I have also learned that schools also rely on the chamber. The skills I have learned will help me move forward from school into the future.
